Activities at Shiga Kogen

Twilight Tour

Ride on a snowmobile to enjoy the sunset, night view, and stargazing.

Among the stunning views of Shiga Kogen, Yokoze Yama is renowned for its breathtaking vistas. Known as “Nozoki,” this observation point is located halfway up Yokote-yama. While it’s closed during the winter season, there’s a limited-time “Twilight Tour” conducted via snowmobile, offering views of the night scenery and starry sky.

Morning Run/First Tracks

Departing from “Restaurant Akari” at 1700m, we will travel from the slopes of Yokoze Yama through the snowy national road to the summit of Shibutoge Ski Resort at 2307m. Enjoy the sunrise from the summit (06:46) and experience the First Tracks (exclusive use of the Shibutoge slope for participants).

Snow Monster Tour

After the ski resort closes, participants will ride a snow groomer to the observation deck at the summit of Mount Yokoze, where they can observe the snow monsters (ice-covered trees). From the 2307-meter-high observation deck, you can also enjoy the sunset and the night views of Kusatsu Town in Gunma Prefecture and Takasaki City.

Monkey Park

This place is a paradise for monkeys. Since ancient times, a troop of Japanese macaques has been living here in their natural habitat. This park is famous for being the only place in the world where monkeys bathe in hot springs. Please observe the fascinating ecology of Japanese macaques up close.
